在「我的多多」這個真實故事中，孩子充滿愛心的收留了鸚鵡多多，還情不自禁的愛上牠。但是這位媽媽的關切點不一樣，她並不希望這隻迷途的鸚鵡，是因主人不知情而易主；因此當她在路上看到「尋鳥啟示」時，便主動打電話給鸚鵡主人。

當原來的主人出現時，孩子勢必要面臨分別的感傷與不捨。孩子帶著強烈的失望心情，讓多多回去牠原來的家，這樣的「分手」固然難過，但是會有「做對事情」的安心，然而事情並沒有真正過去。因為孩子還在「不得已」的情緒中，會不會下次類似的情況發生時，她再也不敢「搏感情」了？會不會為了避免自己再度受傷，而不願意付出關心？

孩子其實只是從自己的角度出發，他需要學習體會別人的想法。父母可以等到孩子心情稍微平復後，以聊天的方式讓孩子重新思考這件事，而且可利用孩子曾經歷過的經驗，去思考當事人的心情，說出冷靜思考後的結論，讓孩子由原來「我」的角度思考，到以「他人」的角度思考，這是由「幼稚」到「成熟」的學習過程。教養的困難在於如何兼顧情理法，幫助孩子學習體諒並認同對方。生活是家庭教育的最重要的教材，如果懂得善加利用，親子雙方會同時得到成長的寶貴經驗。

★The Moral of THE ROOSTER WHO LOST HIS NECKLACE:

“My Derek” is the true story of a child who finds and cares for a pet parrot that she names Derek. She cannot help but love the bird, but when Derek’s owner appears, she must come face to face with the sad reality that the bird is not hers. With great disappointment, she must let Derek return to his rightful owner.

They can use the child’s own experience to consider how the other person must be feeling. After calmly talking about a logical conclusion, the child can move from thinking only from the perspective of “self” to that of the “other.” This is also the learning path from “adolescence” to “maturity.” One of the difficulties with parenting is how to balance this law of reason and help children learn to consider and identify with the other side. Life is the most important teaching material of family education. If parents and children can understand this and make good use of it, it will be a valuable learning experience for everyone.
