★愛的導讀

每個人都有害怕的東西。有的人怕有形的物體，比如蜘蛛、蟑螂、毒蛇；但更多時候，人怕的是無形的東西，比如困難、危險或失敗。碰到害怕的事，有的人會用逃避的態度暫時去淡化恐懼，有的人則選擇用勇敢的態度去解決問題。

故事中，我們看到許多面對害怕的方法。當船在風浪中快要翻覆時，船長「立刻發出求救信號」，他用求助來面對困難。而故事中最感人的部份，就是年僅十歲的小男孩喬丹，選擇用勇敢的態度，冒著生命的危險，去救一個漂浮在海上的人。喬丹從小就失去父母，跟著哥哥由奶奶撫養長大，而唯一的哥哥出海捕魚時也失去音訊。對他來說，成長的過程中，困難就像一隻擺脫不去的巨獸，隨時等候要吞食他的勇氣。然而，這一次所要面對的恐懼顯然更大，因為這次沒有哥哥或奶奶可以在身旁替他擋駕，他必須親自去面對。他是否應該按著奶奶的勸戒，留在她身邊，「讓別人去」面對危險，讓自己向懼怕俯首稱臣？

喬丹最後選擇勇敢面對恐懼，因為「現在村裡只剩下我有體力，我必須跟著隊長去救人。」在理智及需求的判斷之後，喬丹承擔了不能推卸的責任。

當喬丹成功將人救回來的時候，那真是一個極大的勝利，因為他不僅完成救援的任務，更是向內心那隻「懼怕」的惡獸誇勝！相信未來即使還有更大的挑戰，喬丹都可以戰勝心中的害怕，勇敢面對恐懼。因為這一次的勝利，已經為他下一次的恐懼累積了勝利的本錢。

★The Moral of THE RESCUE:

Everyone has something that they are afraid of. Some of us are afraid of tangible objects, like spiders, cockroaches, or snakes. But more often, we are afraid of things we cannot physically touch, like difficulty, danger, and loss. When encountering our fears, some of us will temporarily play them down in order to avoid them while some of us will select to bravely face the fear in order to overcome it.

When Jordan returns after successfully making the rescue, that is indeed a great victory, because not only did he complete the rescue mission, he also overcame the terrifying “fear” inside of him. In the future there will be even greater challenges, but Jordan can take faith in this victory over this fear, and bravely face the next one. In other words, because of this victory, he has already accumulated enough capital for the next time he faces his fears.
